Pygmy Hippo Calf Learns to Swim at Edinburgh Zoo
A baby Hippo isn’t born knowing how to swim: the little ones have to learn from mom. Adana the Pygmy Hippo calf, born at Edinburgh Zoo on October 27, is getting more than just get feet wet as she splashes around with mom Ellen in their indoor pool! An endangered species, there are likely fewer than 3,000 Pygmy Hippos left in West Africa, and so the birth of a healthy newborn is great news for the European Breeding Program, which seeks to conserve the species through captive breeding.
